Exercise Dataset Licenses for Commercial Apps
Choose an exercise dataset for a commercial app: RepDB's licensed artwork, JSON and SQLite, free attribution tier, and product and media use terms.
An exercise dataset for a commercial app should give you three things together: useful data, a visual library that fits your product, and permission to ship both. With RepDB, those arrive in the same bundle.
RepDB Standard costs $499 once and includes 701 illustrated exercises, transparent classic artwork, 544 looping exercise animations, and JSON + SQLite in English, German, Spanish and French. The commercial license covers the licensee’s own apps and websites without a revenue cap or required RepDB attribution. You host the files yourself, with no RepDB API subscription or per-request fees.
Here’s how to choose the right edition and use it in your product or published media.
Choose the edition that fits what you’re shipping
| Edition | What you get | Suitable commercial use |
|---|---|---|
| Free GitHub dataset | JSON, 512px flat illustrations, EN/DE/ES | Inside applications, with a visible RepDB credit link |
| Stills — $299 once | JSON, 1024px classic stills on transparent backgrounds + flat stills, EN/DE/ES/FR | Your own products, without required attribution; no animations or prebuilt SQLite |
| Standard — $499 once | Stills content + looping animations, prebuilt SQLite, SQL, TypeScript types and JSON Schema | Your own commercial products, including subscriptions and paid apps, without required attribution |
| Enterprise — from $999 | Standard with an agreed scope for customer-branded deployments | Client projects and white-label products under the Enterprise agreement |
Choose Standard for an app that needs exercise demonstrations in motion or a ready-made SQLite database. Choose Stills if JSON and still illustrations, including transparent classic artwork, are enough. Compare the current plans and browse the animation preview before buying. The license for the purchased version runs indefinitely, subject to its terms.
What you’re paying to avoid building yourself
RepDB brings the content and its integration pieces together, so your team can spend its time on the app experience.
- A consistent exercise library. Classic and flat artwork follow a shared art direction. Standard’s transparent classic stills and animations fit light, dark and branded interfaces without a white rectangle around the character.
- Artwork commissioned for RepDB. As disclosed in the license, RepDB compiled the dataset independently and commissioned its artwork using AI tools; it was not copied or derived from another exercise dataset or image library.
- Data you can integrate. Exercise slugs connect names, instructions, equipment, muscles and asset paths. Four paid-tier languages and single-language JSON files help you ship localized screens. Standard adds SQLite, SQL, types and a schema for your import pipeline.
- Files under your control. Bundle them in your app or serve them from your own infrastructure. Your exercise catalog doesn’t need a RepDB API key, request allowance or network connection to RepDB.
For example, a workout screen can use the exercise slug to load an instruction, a still image and its animation from one catalog. Static holds use still illustrations; moving exercises have looping demonstrations. You don’t need to assemble separate text, translation and media collections to build that screen.
Commercial apps: what the paid license covers
Stills and Standard cover as many of the licensee’s own products as needed, with no revenue cap. Examples include a paid workout app, a subscription training website, or a multi-tenant coaching service operated under the licensee’s own brand. Employees and contractors can work on those products on the licensee’s behalf.
You may modify the data, resize or crop images, ship assets inside an app bundle, and serve individual records and images to your users in normal product operation. Paid-tier attribution is appreciated but optional.
Client and white-label work needs a different scope. An app delivered under a gym client’s brand isn’t covered by your ordinary Stills or Standard license. Enterprise terms cover separately branded customer deployments under an agreed order. Contact support@repdb.co to describe the brands and delivery model.
The paid license doesn’t permit selling the raw library as an asset pack, exposing the catalog for bulk download, or using the images for generative-AI restyling or training. Read the full current license for the exact scope; this article summarizes it without replacing its terms.
Videos, courses and social posts
The Media Use Addendum also lets Stills and Standard licensees incorporate their assets into their own branded media, including monetized videos, courses, ebooks, presentations and social posts. Standard is the option with animations; you may convert those WebP clips to MP4 or GIF for your editor.
Use the artwork alongside your own teaching, footage, graphics or narration. The addendum sets concrete composition limits: assets occupy at most 70% of a frame, page or slide; full-frame moments in video may total at most one third of its running time. A sequence of otherwise unmodified exercise clips is not covered as your own media. Third-party branded media and reusable templates or asset packs need separate permission. See the exact media terms and the video integration guide.
Can a free exercise dataset be used commercially?
Yes, where its license permits your use. RepDB’s free GitHub edition includes exercise data and flat illustrations for commercial use inside applications, with attribution. You can ship an app using that edition if its visuals and languages meet your needs and a visible RepDB credit fits your product. Its data license doesn’t allow republishing it as your own dataset or API.
Other free choices exist too. For example, free-exercise-db publishes an Unlicense whose text permits commercial use. For any source, check that the license covers the files and intended deployment, then compare the available artwork, languages and formats with what your product needs. If you are replacing ExerciseDB or weighing a hosted API, the ExerciseDB alternatives comparison sets delivery, media, quotas and license terms side by side.
The reason to buy RepDB Standard is the packaged combination: consistent transparent illustrations, looping motion, localized content and integration-ready data under one commercial license.
Try the assets before choosing a license
- For commercial use with attribution: get the free GitHub dataset or browse its live viewer.
- To evaluate premium quality: open the paid-tier preview or download the preview pack. That pack is CC BY-NC 4.0, with attribution: evaluation inside a commercial organization is allowed, but commercial publication requires a paid license. The GitHub repository’s
premium-samples/is also evaluation-only under its separate sample terms; the main dataset’s commercial-use permission doesn’t extend to those samples. - For your commercial product or own branded media: compare Stills and Standard and read the license.
